  1. Mix molasses, corn syrup, sugar, and butter together in a medium to large pot over low-ish heat until soft..
  2. Sift together cloves, cinnamon, baking soda, and cream of tartar into the mixture. Note: if you wish you may substitute the baking soda and cream of tartar for baking powder..
  3. Turn heat down or off. But keep it warm as that will make this next step easier..

  7. Place on cookie sheets and bake at 350°F for 6 minutes. The longer you bake them, the harder they will be. They will be soft right out of the oven while warm, but will get harder as time goes on..
